This is likely what the bride & groom will do!
Great prices for rooms in a cute home in town! Can even bunk 6 in a room for super cheap!
In town hotel. 15% off room rates is being offered here. We personally have enjoyed the King Jacuzzi Suite! On site pool and hot tub as well. If you're wanting to stay in the same hotel as the Groom's parents, this is the place you'll want to book!
This is going to be the least expensive flight, typically. It is approximately 4 hours east of us but the drive is across some of Colorado's most beautiful views. Personally, is often our second best option for airports.
Along the drive, don't hesitate to stop in Buena Vista for the Eddyline Brewery or swing through Salida to visit Amicas Brewery! Salida is also adorable with a great arts district and fun shopping. A good soak & lots of relaxations can be found at Mount Princeton Hot Springs as well. (https://mtprinceton.com/)
Oh! And at the top of Monarch Pass is the Monarch Crest Scenic Tramway. A great opportunity to get out and stretch your legs & get an old school gondola ride further up to see some amazing panoramic views of our area! Oh, and you get free popcorn at the giftshop when you ride...bonus! https://monarchcrest.net/
This is a great option for flying if you can find a reasonable flight! Only one hour away in the direction of civilization. Easy drive here! Any big box shopping should be done here before heading our way. Yes, this is the closest Target & bulk shopping! As you near Gunnison, it transitions to boutique shopping.
Fly directly into our town! We'd love to spend more time with you! We will have time off work to focus on having fun with you! Quick, get here!
Approximately 2.5 hours away -- easy drive, easy flight -- slightly boring desert drive. Closest mall to us is located here! Great option for those who get car sick and don't love mountain passes.
An hour closer than Denver Airport - make a stop at the Royal Gorge on the way here and enjoy Bighorn Canyon!
Land in Denver & take the bus to Gunnison! When leaving Gunnison, the bus picks up & drops off seven days a week in Gunnison at The Powerstop, 905 N. Main St. in Gunnison (across from the City Market).
- Tickets are not sold over the phone or from the driver of the bus.

We absolutely love spending time at the Black Canyon. A great day trip full of beauty & history. A definite must do. Excellent option for a driving tour or hiking options.
"Big enough to be overwhelming, still intimate enough to feel the pulse
of time, Black Canyon of the Gunnison exposes you to some of the
steepest cliffs, oldest rock, and craggiest spires in North America.
With two million years to work, the Gunnison River, along with the
forces of weathering, has sculpted this vertical wilderness of rock,
water, and sky."
A quick drive up 135 and you'll land yourself in Crested Butte, Colorado. Known for it's world class skiing, intense mountain biking, and gorgeous hiking this is a stop you must not miss. We often enjoy lunch at The Last Steep, Ryce, and Teocalli Tamali. If you've never enjoyed The Secret Stash Pizza, be sure to swing in for a unique pizza. Great beer on tap at The Brick Oven & awesome steak at The Wooden Nickel. A handful of awesome shops and cute art galleries.
A simple hike to consider is up to the Fairy Gardens on the Lower Loop.
Oh! Definitely go the extra 10 minutes north and find yourself at the base of Mount Crested Butte!
Up there you can take a horseback ride through the mountains with The Fantasy Ranch -reserve by calling (970) 349-5425 - or go on a nice summer hike up Snodgrass Trail. Find yourself on the top of Mount Crested Butte at 12,168 feet in elevation after taking a lift ride up and hiking another 45 minutes or so!
Tons to do at the resort! Downhill mountain biking, zip lining, hiking, mini adventure park, and more. This is where Erin worked the first two years of living in Colorado!
One of our top favorite locations in Gunnison!
With 40 miles of singletrack trails and 33 miles of road open to biking,
beginning to advanced riders can find great trails to learn on. Motorized vehicles including 4x4, ATV and dirtbiking can enjoy most of those miles as well.
Tons of top rope rock climbing & bouldering to be had as well on all the unique granite structures.
A great place to camp, though typically hot in July! If you choose to camp, opt for cans over glass and be sure to pack it out. 14 days of continuous camping in one location is allowed.
Hours and hours of our lives and adventure are spent here.
Blue Mesa Reservoir spans 20 miles and boasts over 96 miles of shoreline.
Drive up and sprawl out on the beach. Our two beach locations, depending on the water for the year, include Bay of Chickens and Old Stevens. The dogs absolutely LOVE running and playing in the water! Great place for a paddle board, kayak or canoe.
Trout fishing is abundant, too, though you're better off on some of the other pull offs for that is where the water is calmer. Fishing under the Lake City Bridge turn off is great.
Rent a canoe at Lake Fork Marina or Elk Creek Marina for the day! We absolutely love to explore the Mesa this way.
The Blue Mesa Dam is 390 feet tall, houses two turbine generators and
produces an average of 264,329,000 kilowatt-hours each year and is a
tributary of the spectacular Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
Hiking and 4x4ing can be found everywhere! Hartman Rocks, behind the University, up Mill Creek, up Taylor Reservoir and more. Let us know if you need direction, we are happy to help you find some awesome places!
Restaurants we frequent include Blackstock Bistro, where Erin works, Garlic Mikes which boasts a sweet river bar, High Alpine Brewery, The Dive, Backcountry Cafe, Twisted Fork & Anejos. Shopping you shouldn't miss include The Toggery Elevated, Hyder Lane Boutique, Treads and Threads and Tango! Gene Taylors is also amazing and a great place if you're needing affordable outdoor gear!
Be sure to check out Erin's fine art at the Gunnison Art Center as well!
You will be traveling to high altitude! It's beautiful up here but you need to be sure to take good care of yourself before and during your stay. Gunnison is located at 7,703′ above sea level, Mt Crested Butte at 9380', and depending on your activity you may even get as high as 1400' above sea level. There are great ways to prevent altitude sickness & we HIGHLY recommend taking it seriously.
Ways to prepare for altitude:
-Be well. Good health helps the adjustment to higher altitude.
-Drink water. A LOT of water days prior to arriving, during your stay and while traveling back. We often tell our guests that when they think they've drank enough water, drink more.
-Vitamin C. High doses of vitamin C can help alleviate altitude issues.
-Acli-Mate. We love it. https://acli-mate.com/
-Oxygen bars. Yes, they exist. You're welcome to buy over priced oxygen in a bottle or make a trip to an oxygen bar, but with proper water intake you shouldn't need to spend the extra money.
-For every alcoholic beverage, match it with a water. High elevation and alcohol can be dangerous if you're not aware at how quickly you're drinking. You get drunker, faster.
